More extension cord sockets represent more load?

Index > Power Life > Electrical Safety

1 socket! 2 sockets! 3 sockets! ... 8 sockets!
The more extension cord sockets, the larger the load will be?
NO! NO! NO!

The extension cord is powered by the inserted socket and has a total allowable current, such as: 15A
👉Extension cord with only 2 sockets, the available current: 15A
👉Extension cord with 8 sockets, the available current is still: 15A!
So even if there are more sockets on the extension cord, the total amount of current available is still the same! It is not that more extension cord sockets represent more load.

The next time you go to the store, you can check the mark on the extension cord. Regardless of the number of its sockets, most of them are rated at 15A (power rated at 1650W).
Therefore, the total power (W) of electrical appliances inserted in the extension cord and simultaneously turned on cannot exceed 1650W! This is why electrical appliances with high power consumption and high power are recommended to use dedicated sockets to avoid sharing with other electrical appliances, so that they will not accidentally exceed the load!

When buying an extension cord, you should pay attention to the "commodity safety label", which has the rated voltage, current, capacity, and manufacturer's telephone number and address. You can choose independent switch, overload automatic protection device, and lightning protection surge function.
