Units No.5~10 Air Quality Control System (AQCS) Retrofit Work Project of Taichung Power Plant
Unit No. 5~10 of Taichung Power Plant have achieved outstanding performance since they were put into operation in 1996. However, due to the increasingly stricter standards of the central and local environmental protection regulations in recent years, the existing units will be renewed to supply the stable power and meet the environmental protection standards in the future operation life time by improving the air pollution control equipment, reducing various pollutants - NOx, SOx, PM, etc stable power supply.
Improvement of Air Quality Control System(AQCS),includes the selective catalyst reduction (SCR .The SCR system shall be retrofitted to enhance the Mercury (Hg) oxidation rate),low low temperature electrostatic precipitator(LLESP),flue gas desulfurization equipment(FGD) 0and wet electrostatic precipitator(WESP).
The plan is expected to improve the existing NOX, PM and SOX control equipment of unit 5 to 10, so that the air pollutant concentration discharged by the units can meet the requirements of the air pollutant emission standard of electric power facilities of the environmental protection department of the Executive Yuan (announced on 2024/01/01)：
- Nitrogen oxide (NOx): the concentration discharged will be reduced to 20ppm.
- Particulate pollutants (PM): the concentration discharged will be reduced to 5mg/Nm3
- Sulfur oxide (SOx): the concentration discharged will be reduced to 10 ppm.

Note: Affected by the pandemic of Covid-19 and the increase of construction cost, the EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) bidding had failed for 2 times to choose the successful bidder until the 3rd time tendering. Therefore, the schedule of related design work done by EPC contractor has a bit left behind the original planning. Now we’re expediting every work to catch up the schedule.
