To minimize the risk of people falling victim to SMS scams from parties posing as government agencies, starting in January 2024, Taipower will adopt a unified approach of sending electricity bill payment SMS messages via the government-exclusive 111 SMS short code platform developed by the Ministry of Digital Affairs. The messages will display the sender’s number as “111”, and the content will only remind  recipients of the number and month of the unpaid electricity bill—the messages will never contain links. In case of any doubts, customers are asked to call Taipower’s customer service hotline at 1911 or the anti-fraud hotline at 165 for verification.

Taipower explained that the 111 SMS short code is easy to recognize and cannot be faked, as it can only be used by government-verified agencies, which helps prevent electricity bill SMS scams.  Starting from January, only SMS messages originating from 111 should be considered official. If you receive an unpaid electricity bill reminder from a number other than 111 but signed as Taipower, please be extremely cautious.

  • Starting in January 2024, all Taipower bill payment reminder SMS messages will be sent via the Ministry of Digital Affairs’ government-exclusive SMS short code platform, which displays the sender’s number as “111”.
