Diverse Training Program

Onboarding / Professional Boot Camps

Taiwan Power Company (TPC) has four training centers located around the island. The centers provide orientation training for new recruits, specialist training for current staff, new technology training, as well as manager cultivation and leadership development training. The training facilities and resources are updated continuously to meet the needs of their courses.

Systematic and Diverse Training Programs

Most technical positions at Taipower involve the risk of high or low voltage electrical shock. In consequence, Taipower maintains a vigorous professional training program. For technical positions, the company provides comprehensive professional development plans that consist of developing various skills and career opportunities.

Taipower organizes professional development and training for employees of all levels. Training programs are delivered through seminars, managerial case studies, outdoor exploration, corporate culture and self-development sessions, and corporate field trips. The training programs aim to create all-round leaders and to ensure the sustainable development of Taipower.

Onboarding and Orientation

New employees that are assigned to plant or power operation positions undergo both a training program consisting of skill-based learning and an experiential course geared towards mental preparation. The mental preparation course exposes trainees to the work carried out by plant and power operation professionals under various challenging conditions.

Simulation Training in Industrial Safety

In order to fully implement TPC’s industrial health and safety policies, training units have set up simulation training facilities. Through practical simulations, appropriate awareness of industrial safety is instilled. This awareness helps the company to achieve its goal of preventing all occupational health and safety incidents.

An Exclusive E-Learning Environment

In order to provide employees with diversified learning channels and convenient learning environments, Taipower has established e-learning platforms. The company has continuously expanded the functions of its systems and has added mobile learning Apps which support tablets and smartphones. Moreover, the company holds occasional learning events and keeps its teaching resources updated. This system currently offers over 1,000 courses in professional skills, information technology, languages, knowledge management, communication psychology and healthcare management in order to promote employee development.

Certifications

In order to improve work quality, Taipower encourages certification for professional skills and provides guidance for employees hoping to obtain relevant qualifications. Moreover, the company collaborates with the Executive Yuan’s Council of Labor Affairs to develop national-level, technical skill tests which are based on core skills in the electric power industry.

Overseas Seminars

Every year, Taipower sends employees abroad to participate in internships, seminars, conferences and contract-based exchange visits to electric power-related institutions. Typically, employees participate in events organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) and the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE). In 2014, Taipower kicked off a Global Program that selects and sends outstanding supervisors overseas to study at well-known universities and training institutes. These overseas studies serve to both broaden supervisors’ strategic horizons and enhance their managerial proficiency.

Skills Advancement

Skill Competitions

In order to encourage employees to advance their skill levels and to implement occupational safety goals, Taipower holds annual skills competitions. These competitions allow core skills to be improved and passed down effectively and continuously. This helps to lay a solid foundation for the sustainable development of the electric power industry in Taiwan.

The Selection of TPC Masters

In order to recognize employees who have mastered skills as acted as role models, Taipower has established a “TPC Skill Master Award.” These awards are a great honor and boost employee morale while further strengthening skill development and transfer.

Academic-Industrial Co-operation

Taipower has actively responded to the government’s policy of academic-industrial collaboration by developing good relationships with local communities. The company has concluded collaboration agreements with Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang Senior High School, Taichung Sha-Lu Industrial Senior High School and the Affiliated Tao-Yuan Agricultural & Industrial Senior High School of National Taipei University of Technology. These collaborations are currently offering electro-mechanical trial classes. Students that graduate from these classes can become Taipower employees upon passing the company’s selection process and complete the training program.
