The awards ceremony of Enterprise Asia's '2019 Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards' was conducted at Hilton Taipei Sinban yesterday (May 24th). Taipower was recognized again and won the 'Human Resources Investment Prize' this year following the 'Public Welfare Development Prize' won in 2018 among the more than 200 nominated businesses in Asia.
Taipower pointed out that the information technology integrated in professional skills training has been introduced for the training of technical staff to enhance the effectiveness of physical trainings. By means of virtual reality (VR) simulation, participants are able to experience real feelingsof high altitude operation such as climbing towers, etc. By simulating various environmental variables such as height, wind speed, or animals' mistaking power poles for tress, etc., participants are trained to process operations such as power line insulator cleaning or line maintenance, etc. so as to help new staff of Department of Transmission Line and Substation Construction overcome their fear while working and accomplish their tasks smoothly and safely. Moreover, simulated scenarios about the use of safety protective equipment in construction and high elevation operation as well as the hazards of falls are also provided for construction operators so as to raise new staff's awareness about occupational safety in actual operation.
Besides the innovation of hard services (technical facilities), Taipower also keeps upgrading its soft services management system, by which strong human resources for business's sustainable development shall be provided. Taipower pointed out that in order to pass down and upgrade professional techniques, the 'Mentoring system' has been set since 2007, by which new staff can continuously develop their professional competence with the assistance of 'Mentoring system' after they start working on their positions. Moreover, 'Occupational Certification System' is also actively promoted, by which the support and strength coming from the strongest human resources for power business can be established. And in order to effectively upgrade and pass down on-site technical staff's core techniques and experiences, Taipower organizes the yearly 'Skill Competition' activity and offers 'Excellent Technique Master Award' to encourage on-site technical staff to seek excellence of techniques and strive for honor so as to build up a corporate culture that seeks excellent techniques.
Taipower stressed that besides the firm and solid trainings, the health and balanced development of employees' body, mind and spirit are specially emphasized in the hope of establishing a happy and professional work environment and enable talented professionals to be proud of this big family— Taipower. Taipower has set up 'Same Heart Garden' (empathetic caring section) in all units around Taiwan and been actively promoting multiple 'Employee Assistance Program (EAP)' since the '“Teacher Chang” Volunteers' model was introduced in 1988. The EAP is implemented through two tracks—one is 'Creating an internal EAP' (640 staff assistants in the company) and the other is 'Linking to external professional resources' (Contracted assistants or associations)' —working in parallel to turn the loving care into specific action based on the needs of employees and the organization. Such assistance has penetrated deeply into employees' lives in the past 30 years and has built up a healthy and friendly work environment in Taipower. The caring measures shall be modified in response to the change of organizational environment in the future so as to pass down the culture of caring and sharing and enable talented professionals to exert their abilities and continue their commitment.
