August 23, 2025 – In response to the outcome of today's referendum on restarting the No. 3 Nuclear Power Plant, Taipower expressed that it will respect the results. Additionally, the Company will launch a self-implemented safety check in accordance with the law. Taipower further pledged to continue its exploration of diverse energy sources in an effort to meet the entire nation's power needs.
A Taipower representative emphasized that in response to recent concerns from all sectors regarding the use of nuclear energy, the Company will uphold the commitment made prior to the referendum and await the Nuclear Safety Commission's formal announcement of the Nuclear Reactivity Facility Operations License Application Examination Measures, then conduct a self-implemented safety check of the No. 3 Nuclear Power Plant in accordance with the law. The safety check will include recommissioning plans, age assessment, radiation impact, seismic safety assessment, and a final safety analysis report. Taipower will also seek international peer review of the report. Furthermore, the Company will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of safety, timetables, costs and economic factors, and all other aspects, with ensuring the safety of nuclear energy as its top priority.
