Talin Power Plant Renewal Project

11/26/20

Project Description

Background

In order to ensure a stable and sufficient supply of electricity, the Taiwan Power Company (TPC) undertook the Talin Power Plant (TLPP) renewal project. The project entailed the replacement of an older, ineffective unit with high-efficiency, low-emission equipment by installing two 800 MW Ultra-Supercritical Steam Turbine Generation units.

Project Location and Scope

The construction area is based in Taiwan south west coast, in Xiaogang District, Kaohsiung City, the southernmost tip of Kaohsiung Port.

Environmental Planning

  1. Install perfect air pollution equipment, Reduce air pollution emissions.

Pollution Source Original Unit New Unit
    SOX 200 ppm 30 ppm
    NOX 300 ppm 30 ppm
    Particulate 31 mg/Nm3 20 mg/Nm3
  2. Environmentally Friendly Measures

    Item Countermeasure Estimated Benefit
    CO2
    Reduction
Improve equipment power generation efficiency The gross efficiency of the new unit is 45.59%, which is 5.92% higher than that of the old coal-fired unit, and the CO2 emission per unit of electricity is reduced by about 13%.
Reuse of coal ash resources Calculated by using coal ash instead of cement, the annual reduction of CO2 emissions is about 164,000 tons.
Plant landscaping, Green building design The general buildings in the plant are incorporated into the green building design concept, and the design concepts of environmental water permeability and building ventilation of energy saving are introduced to reduce energy consumption and CO2 production.
  3. Recycling and reuse of power plant wastewater to reduce emissions; Set up wastewater treatment equipment to treat wastewater to meet discharge water standards.
