Project Introduction Datan Combined Cycle Power Plant Expansion Project
Respond to the growth of domestic power consumption, Taiwan Power Company (TPC) follows the government’s energy policy and promotes the " Datan Combined Cycle Power Plant Expansion Project" to ensure stable power supply. TPC plan to add three high-efficiency gas combined cycle units at current plant site, bring the total capacity to 2880~3168MW.
In 2016, owing to the changes in the existing and the newly added power units, that could have directly lead to power shortages in 2017-2019, emergency generator units were needed to be added. Based on the comprehensive assessment results of Site conditions, TPC initiated a Datan Emergency Gas Turbine Generator Project at Datan Power Plant site to relieve the tension of electric supply. The all-turkey was contracted by GE to install two gas simple cycle units with a total installed capacity of 600MW.
Project Location and Scope
The Datan Power Plant (DTPP) is located at the Datan coastal industrial park, Guanyin District, Taoyuan City, with a length of about 2,300 m and a width of about 750 m. The total area is about 116.02 hectares. There are six combined cycle units in operation, totally 4386 MW. The project "Datan Combined Cycle Power Plant Expansion Project" will install 3 combined cycle units at the south vacant lot of DTPP approximately 19.8 hectares. Besides, TPC has completed the installation of two phase 1 gas simple cycle units (300 MW per unit) at the unit 7 site with a total installed capacity of 600 MW.

- The feasibility study report of the Datan Combined Cycle Power Plant Expansion Project was approved for establishment by the Executive Yuan's letter No. 1050039082 on 2016/11/28.
- Due to the electric capacity need in 2017, the emergency gas turbine generator for unit 7 was installed and has been operating continuously until the end of 2022. According to the energy generation ratio policy of "reducing coal and increasing natural gas"; meanwhile, provide stable power for the system, the Datan simple cycle gas turbine of unit 7 the originally scheduled to be shutdown in 2019. Application for extension of continuous operation from 2020 to the end of 2022, then expansion botton cycle unit after resume operation.
Phase I:TPC obtained Electricity Generation License for unit7-1&7-2 from Bureau of Energy (BOE) on 2018/03/28.
Phase I I:The add-on procurement package was awarded on 2019/12/19 and was contracted by MHPS/MC Joint Team. Project Kick Off Meeting has been held on 2020/02/05.
Piling & Foundation Work at power block and BOP area are ongoing.
Circulating Water System:
The Circulating Water System was awarded on 2018/09/28 and was contracted by BES. By the end of 2020/05, progress is 38.07%.
161kV Underground Cable from Datan to Linkou:
(A)Overall Progress: 21.70% by the end of 2020/06.
(B)Civil Engineering:It is divided into four work areas; civil construction of cable tunnel and pipe jacking are ongoing.
(C)Mechanical and Electrical Engineering:
a. The bid of procurement of cables and auxiliary equipment was awarded on 2018/12/28. The length of the cable will be notified and measured with the progress of civil engineering completion.
b. Cable pulling and iron/aluminum fittings manufacturing and installation: The contract will be issued in time to match with the construction progress of civil engineering.
Selective Catalytic Reduction System (SCR) used for environmental protection.
