Tai-Wu Power Plant was built in 1967 which has been all day supply electricity for great Kinmen area. Following the local economic development, four other power plants were successively built, including Gui-Kung, Chan-Jian, Hsia-hsing, and Chi-lin.

Since five power plants above are limited for expansion due to tunneled underground construction or lower-leveled basin, as well as insufficient supply to meet increasing demand for power. Until early 1990s, it is necessary to build new power plant to solve power shortage problem.

In January 1995, Executive Yuan approved to build unit #1 ~ #4 in Tashan.

To take care of people's lives on the islands, the government assigned Kinmen Power Company to be merged by Taiwan Power Company on July 1, 1997.

After Tashan Power Plant has completed constructions for units #1~#4 in October 2000, Tai-Wu, Chan-Jian, Jui-Kung small-scale power plants retired. Since then, Tashan, Hsia-hsing, and Chi-lin took place to continue power supply service for civil and military use. In March 1998, under the approval of Executive Yuan, Tashan Power Plant built units #5 ~#8, and operated commercially in February 2004.

In December 2008, in order to improve the quality of power supply, the power plant changed belonging to the Department of Power Generation and entered another new era since then.

To meet power demand in the future, to maintain the stability of power supply, and to avoid power shortages, we cooperate with the government with the policy to take care of the island, to ensure the economic development of the Kinmen area and to enhance the well-being of residents. On July 6, 2016, the Ministry of Economic Affairs approved to build units #9~#10 of Tashan Power Plant, and joined the system in February 2020.

At present, the total capacity is about 113.3 MW in Kinmen area.
