Hsinta Power Plant’s installed capacity is the third largest power plant in Taiwan, which is located on the south side of Hsinta Harbor. It was established in the 1970s to balance power demand and economic development in southern Taiwan. It has 4 coal-fired units which installed capacity are 2,100MW. In the 1990s, domestic electricity consumption grew rapidly. It had been built five LNG combined cycle units(C/C) in 1998, which installed capacity are about 2,226MW.

Existing units have been gradually decommissioned since 2023. Coal-fired unit #1 and #2 were decommissioned respectively on September 30, 2023 and December 31, 2023. Both are converted into the emergency standby units. And now total capacity is about 3,326MW. In response to the decommissioning of existing units, long-term power load growth needs and carbon emissions reduction, the “Hsinta Power Plant LNG combined cycle unit renovation and reconstruction plan” has been promoted. It is planned to install three 1,300MW LNG combined cycle units. In addition, in order to meet the policy of 2050 Net-Zero Emissions, Hsinta Power Plant completed 5% H2 blending of C/C#3 of gas turbine #3 in December 2023. It is estimated that operating one gas turbine at full capacity for one year will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 7,130 metric tons.

Furthermore, Hsinta Power Plant is the only power plant in Taipower Company that has a wetland within its plant area. Through ecological conservation management and efforts, the idle salt fields have been transformed into an ecological area that integrates birds and wetlands, so it is also known as the "Flying Bird Power Plant”. And it is expected to pass environmental education site certification in 2024 which will drive local tourism.
