In order to meet the demand of domestic enterprises for using green electricity, cases of power wheeling in renewable energy begins to operate one after another. Taipower said that its license for selling renewable-energy based electricity has been granted and it will begin to sell its self-developed green electricity to activate the domestic green electricity market. It is estimated that 840 million kWh of green electricity will be supplied by Taipower to the green electricity trading platform throughout the year, making it the largest green electricity supplier in Taiwan.

Taipower has been actively investing in the development of renewable energy for a long time. In addition to large projects such as the Changbin Photovoltaic Power and the Changgong Wind Power, it also effectively uses thermal power plants, substations and other places to build solar panels or wind power generators. Taipower pointed out that by the end of this year (2020), the renewable energy generated from Taipower’s self-developed projects that have been verified by the Bureau of Standards can supply about 840 million kWh to the green electricity market throughout the year, making Taipower the largest green electricity supplier in Taiwan. Besides, taking the initiative to invest in self-developed photovoltaic power and on-shore wind power, Taipower will continue to promote the development projects for photovoltaic systems on the salt fields of Tainan and off-shore wind power generators in the future, continuing to supply green power to the green electricity trading platform.

Taipower stated that in November of last year (2019), the added "renewable-energy based electricity selling operation" business was approved by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. In April of this year (2020), Taipower received the license for selling renewable-energy based electricity issued by the Bureau of Energy and will make a proposal for the regular shareholders meeting which is scheduled to be held in May of this year. After changing the articles of incorporation and completing the business change registration, the sale of green electricity can be conducted on the green electricity trading platform required by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection.

In addition, to enable a diversified supply of renewable energy, Taipower will negotiate with operators who intend to enter into the green electricity trading market but have signed a purchase contract with Taipower, based on the principle of "not affecting the electricity price of the public" and "averaging risks", allowing the termination of the contract to fulfill the needs of both electricity users and green electricity operators, and also to protect the rights and interests of the public in using electricity. So far, Taipower has terminated contracts with five operators under the agreed conditions, and will continue to provide assistance in handling power wheeling related matters in the future.

Taipower pointed out that last year (2019), renewable energy accounted for 6% of total power generation. In addition to promoting the development of renewable energy with domestic operators, Taipower will also initiate the power grid strengthening project, creating a friendly environment for grid connection. Moreover, Taipower will continue to invest in the green electricity market and provide stable green electricity to activate the trading, making contribution to the development of renewable energy in Taiwan.
