‘Remains of the 13 Levels’ shall be officially lighted up with warm light at Moon Festival night! The lighting ceremony of ‘Light up Remains of the 13 Levels’ was jointly conducted by Taipower, New Taipei City Government, Keelung City Government and the General Association of Chinese Culture in Ruifang (New Taipei City) at the night of September 13th, and more than one hundred honorable guests were present in response to this event. With the amber light going with the breathtaking outdoor performance performed by nearly one hundred U-theatre performers, more than 10,000 people witnessed together the architectural beauty of the largest historical site in Taiwan as if the past glory of gold mining were appearing again. Taipower stated that the ‘Light up Remains of the 13 Levels’ project has been developed since 2017 to initiate a new mode for the activation of cultural assets through public arts. It will be illuminated nightly from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting on tomorrow night. The public are welcome to experience a night tour here and explore a new mysterious world of extraordinary beauty.

The lighting of the ‘Light up Remains of the 13 Levels’ project was jointly planned by the world-renowned lighting designer Lien Chou, who was the lighting designer for Statue of Liberty in the United States, and the famous lighting designing team ‘YI.ng Lighting Design Consultant Team’. The lead designer of YI.ng Lighting Design Consultant Team Annie Chu explained that the lighting design of Remains of the 13 Levels comprised about 360 sets of light fixtures with 15 different wattages and angles, through which the brightness (luminance) ranged from less than 1 nit (the bottom level) to about 5 nit (top level) to approach the luminance of adjacent villages. As for the color temperature of the light, the designing team did not only look at the color of the light itself, but also focused on the visible luster presented on the buildings or architectures. The golden combination of 2100K (color temperature unit) low color temperature yellow light and amber light was finally chosen after many colors were tested, and the perfect lighting shall be presented at this Moon Festival night in the hope of merging with the surroundings and highlighting the golden glory of the past mining historical culture of Remains of the 13 Levels as well as manifesting the beauty of Nature as described in《Zhuangzi》—“The majestic beauty of heaven and earth is beyond word.”
