The Sixth Distribution Project

In order to increase power distribution reliability and power supply quality, Taipower launched various distribution projects to strengthen its distribution system. The Sixth Distribution Project was started in 2008 and is scheduled for completion in 2011. The total budget for this project is NT$56.8 billion.

Up to the end of 2008, the execution of the budge reached NT$15.42 billion. The project was 26.3% complete. In the year 2008, new, expanded and improved distribution lines reached 2,430 ckt-km. The replaced and added transformers reached 4,208 MVA, electricity meters reached 314,024 units, and 219 feeders were automated.

To comply with power development program and regional load growth, Taipower formulated the Sixth Power Transmission and Substation Project. The project was started in July 2001, revised in 2008 and scheduled to be completed in Dec. 2009.

The project plan is to install 222 new substations, a total capacity of 69,235 MVA of new and expanded substations and a total length of 4,587 ckt-km transmission lines. The budget of the project is NT$ 326.6 billion.

In 2008, Taipower completed a total installation capacity of 5,935 MVA of substations and a total length of 405 ckt-km of transmission lines, of which 203 ckt-km are overhead lines and 202 ckt-km underground cables.

The major accomplishments were:

◆ 1 primary substations.

◆ 15 primary distribution substations.

◆ 9 secondary substations.

◆ 66 ckt-km of 345 KV transmission lines.

◆ 271 ckt-km of 161 KV transmission lines.

◆ 68 ckt-km of 69 KV transmission lines.

When the completion of a new substation is delayed or the power consumption in a region exceeds estimates, measures of expansion will be undertaken to fulfill the urgent demand. In 2008, the total expansion capacity was 1,425 MVA, accounting for 24% of the newly added capacity. This accomplishment was a great help to stabilize power supply and ensure power supply quality.
