Honduras

    The Technical Cooperation Contract between ENEE and Taipower is entering its 31st year. Up to the end of 2008, Taipower has sent 139 specialists to Honduras. Under the consent of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), a 2-member survey team was dispatched to Honduras to assist ENEE in evaluating the development of the PATUCA 3 hydro power project from April 19 to 28.

    Mr. Mel Zelaya, President of Honduras paid a visit to Taipower and had a pleasant meeting with Mr. Edward K.M. Chen, Chairman of Taipower, on May 21. The cooperation and friendship between the two countries were further enhanced.

Japan

◆ Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

    According to the memorandum signed by both parties, the Chubu Electric Power Co. sent a 5-member delegation led by Mr. Hirotaka Takagi, Managing Executive Officer, to pay a 3-day-visit to Taipower starting from Nov. 11. Discussion topics included power supply, transmission and others.

◆ Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc.

    The 14th high-ranking delegation led by Mr. Hiroshi Fuji, Executive Vice President of the Chugoku Electric Power Co., paid a 10-day visit to Taipower starting from April 14. An exchange of opinions was made on fuel prices, electricity rates, energy conservation and other relevant issues.

◆ The 20th CRIEPI/TPC General Meeting

    The 20th CRIEPI/TPC General Meeting was held December 16-19 in CRIEPI Headquarters. A 5-member delegation led by Mr. Chang-ren Fei, General Manager of TPRI of Taipower, attended the meeting. In addition to reviewing the cooperation issues in the past year, discussion topics were focused on the issues of risk evaluation of power transformers, CO2 capture/storage (CCS ), and smart grid. A technical tour was arranged for the delegates to visit Nakoso IGCC Power Plant.

Korea

◆ Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO)

    The 31st Taipower delegation led by Mr. Hsu Hwai-Chiung, Vice President of Taipower, visited Korea Electric Power Corporation in September and a KEPCO delegation led by Mr. Jin-Sik Kim, Senior Vice President of KEPCO, visited Taipower in November.<.p>

South Africa

    The 21st Cooperation Conference between Eskom and Taipower was held in Taipei from October 26 to November 1. A 4-member delegation led by Mrs. Deidre Herbst, Environmental Manager of the Electricity Industry of ESKOM, attended the Conference. The main topic of this conference was risk management.

United States

◆ INPO TEV(Institute of Nuclear Power Operations Technical Exchange Visit)

    Taipower is a member of the INPO's International Program (headquartered in Atlanta, USA). Each year, INPO sends its personnel to Taipower for a technical exchange visit. In 2008, under the request of Taipower, INPO dispatched two experts to visit Taiwan to exchange views and opinions. They were also invited as speakers in a Plant Management Seminar held for high-ranking officials of nuclear power plants in the Linkou Nuclear Training Center from September 8 to 12.

Other Activities

◆ The 24th Meeting of the General Planning Managers of Southeast and Northeast Asian Power Utilities(GPM)

    Taipower hosted the 24th GPM in Taipei from Nov.4 to 7. There were 28 delegates from 6 countries– Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan. They exchanged views and experiences in the three themes: measures adopted by the power industry to cope with high fuel prices, development of technologies for low-carbon power generation and planning for distributed power sources and a smart grid.

◆ The 17th CEPSI of AESIEAP

    Mr. Edward K.M. Chen, Chairman of Taipower, in his capacity as the acting president of AESIEAP (Association of the Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and the Western Pacific) led a delegation to attend the 17th CEPSI (Conference of Electric Power Supply Industry) in Macao from October 27 to 30. As Taipower will host AESIEAP activities for 2009 and 2010, Mr. Edward K. M. Chen, Chairman of Taipower, and Mr. Guang-Ming Chuang, Director of the Department of Coporate Planning, were elected president and secretary-general, respectively.
