International Conferences

1. The 2009 CEO Conference of AESIEAP

Taipower hosted the 2009 CEO Conference of AESIEAP (the Association of the Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and the Western Pacific) at the Grand Hi-Lai Hotel in Kaohsiung from October 14 to 16. The theme was“Challenges and Opportunities of the Electric Power Industry in an Uncertain Era”. There were 127 participants.

Taipower joined ASIEAP in 1988. As Taipower is hosting AESIEAP activities for 2009 and 2010, Mr. Edward K. M. Chen, chairman of Taiower and Mr. Guang-Ming Chuang, director of the Department of Corporate Planning, assumed the post of president and secretary-general, respectively. In addition to convening the 2009 CEO Conference, Taipower will host the Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI), from October 25 to 28 in Taipei International Convention Center and Taipei World Trade Center. It is expected that there will be 1,200 participants.

2. The 28th Sino-Japanese Modern Engineering and Technology Symposium

This symposium was held in November 2009, Taipei. Taipower hosted the nuclear panel discussion on November 17. Mr. Jun Matsumoto, general manager of the Tokyo Electric Power Company, was invited to deliver a speech concerning“the requirements of the nuclear regulatory agency and local government, and major content of inspections, tests and improvements necessary to the reimplementation of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant unit 7 (KK7) after Niigataken Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake in Japan”. There were more than 60 participants, including staff members from nuclear-related departments and power plants, and the Atomic Energy Council of the Executive Yuan.

3. The 9th Annual Cross-Strait Academic Conference on Nuclear Energy

This conference was held in Taiwan, from December 1 to 2 in the Institute of Nuclear Energy. Taipower is the cosponsor. Promotion of nuclear safety was the focal point of the conference. There were more than 130 participants from Taipower's nclear-related units and nuclear power plants, and nuclear-related industries.

International Cooperation Activities

Honduras

The Technical Cooperation Contract between ENEE and Taipower entered its 32nd year. Up to the end of 2009, Taipower has sent 146 specialists to Honduras. In October, Mr. Chih- Hao Ho, succeeded Mr. Chung-Fu Wang, as the chief of Taipower Mission in Honduras.

A expert team for hydro planning project was dispatched to Honduras to survey the plant site of the PATUCA 3 hydro power project from March 17 to 23. In addition, Taipower dispatched a technical cooperation negotiation team to visit ENEE from June 16 to 20 to discuss the assistance that Taipower could provide for the PATUCA 3 hydro project.

Japan

1. Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.

The memorandum between Taipower and the Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. was signed in 2005 and expired in 2009. Based on the remarkable interaction between the two sides, both agreed to continue the good exchange relationship. The memorandum was renewed and extended for 4 years. Taipower sent a 5-member delegation led by Mr. Han-Shen Lee, vice president of Taipower, to visit the Chubu Electric Power Company from September 15 to 18. Discussion topics included greenhouse gases and telecommunications.

2. Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc.

The 14th high-ranking delegation led by Mr. Stephen S. T. Lee, vice president of Taipower, paid a 10-day visit to the Chugoku Electric Power Company starting from April 13. An exchange of opinions was made on smart grid and other relevant topcs.

The 40th manager-level Chugoku Electric Power Company's 8-member delegation visited Taipower from November 9 to 18. Mr. J. T. Lee, vice president of Taipower, received them in the headquarters. Discussion topics were held and field trips were arranged for them.

3. The 21st CRIEPI/TPC General Meeting

The 21st CRIEPI/TPC General Meeting was held in Taiwan Power Company from December 16 to 19. In addition to reviewing the cooperation issues in the past year, discussion topics were focused on the issues of electric vehicles, geologic CO2 storage sites, etc. A tour was arranged for the delegates to visit the Hsinta Thermal Power Plant coal-unloading pier.

Korea

1. Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO)

The 27th Conference of Technology and Energy Resources Cooperation Committee between KEPCO and Taipower was held in Taipei from April 27 to May 1. Five delegates led by Mr. Kang, Heui-Tai, vice president of Distribution Operation Department, KEPCO, attended the Conference. Three specific topics were discussed in three parallel sessions: power line technology, power development and system planning, and R & D.

In addition, both sides agreed to combine this conference with the personnel exchange program.

2. Korea South-East Power Company (KOSEP)

According to the Cooperation Agreement for Fuel Procurement and Power Generation signed by Taipower and KOSEP. Mr. Yoon, In-Ho, general manager of the Yeongdong Thermal Power Plant of KOSEP, led a 11-member delegation to pay a 4-day visit to Taipower starting from October 27. The topics discussed in the 3rd Technical Exchange Meeting were focused on environmental protection, renewable energy, wind power, construction, planning, manpower and other relevant issues.

South Africa

Due to the epidemic of H1N1, both Eskom and Taipower agreed to postpone the 22nd Cooperation Conference between Eskom and Taipower, which originally scheduled to be held in Johannesburg in October 2009, to 2010.
