Manpower Recruitment and Training
In order to pass on techniques and experience, adjust manpower structure, promote manpower resource development and upgrade operation performance, Taipower engages in new employees recruitment and training programs.
In Aug. 2004, Taipower held a public examination to recruit 410, highly educated and qualified specialists under the age of 30. They reported in Jan. 2005 and underwent a 6-month probation period before starting work. They obtained a preliminary understanding of the company and its business and developed a sense of belonging and loyalty. Assistance and guidance were provided to them while learning in different sectors in an attempt to convey on to them the professional knowledge and techniques required in their work. In addition, 360 high school graduates were recruited as technicians and underwent a one-year probation.
Meanwhile, to strengthen its employees' knowledge and management techniques, the following study and training programs were undertaken: 5 employees went for overseas research on special topics; 145 went for overseas visits and training; 3 studied for master's and doctoral degrees; 258 participated in supervisory trainings; 187 participated in intermediate supervisory trainings; 69 participated in senior supervisory trainings. To cope with the impact of the future privatization of Taipower, retraining programs were held to cultivate employees' second professional specialties. There were 734 participants in 23 classes. In addition, Taipwoer promoted "certificate system" in an effort to help employees to obtain electricity-related certificates. There were 2,542 participants in 24 classes.
From among the employees with outstanding performance, one was selected to attend the Institute of Management Science of the National Chiao Tung University for a master's degree; 2 were selected to attend the Institute of Administration of the National Sun Yat-sen University for a master's degree; 2 were selected to study EMBA degrees in other universities. In addition, there were 50,288 participants in various trainings and advanced study programs. Confronted with the challenges from the age of knowledge-based economy and life-long learning, Taipoewr will continue to promote e-learning to reinforce its competitiveness. |
