Load Management and Energy Conservation
|
1. Load Management
To balance the system load and improve the system load factor and power efficiency, Taipower has instituted the following load management measures:
(1) Increasing the rate difference between peak and off-peak hours, the largest summer season ratio between peak and off-peak is 7.56:1. (2) Revising and increasing the number of categories in the Load Reduction Program (LRP). By the end of 2007, Taipower has offered 7 kinds of the LRP. In July 2007, 1,010 customers adopted the LRP and 1,226 MW was clipped on the peak day. (3) Continuing implemention of seasonal rates and promotion of ice-storage central air conditioning system, which currently has 291 customers, for a total compressor capacity of 213,086 hp.
2. Energy Conservation Management and Promotion
In compliance with the government’s policy, Taipower continued its campaigns to promote load management, energy conservation and the study on energy conservation technologies in an attempt to prevent energy consumption waste, to promote reasonable and efficient use of power sources and to enhance the energy conservation atmosphere in the society.
For energy conservation promotion, following measures were adopted:
(1) Held energy conservation seminars to train personnel for promotion of energy conservation.
(2) Held an annual large-scale energy conservation exhibition and set up energy conservation exhibition rooms in several branches to promote reasonable energy consumption and methods of energy conservation.
(3) Printed energy conservation promotion materials.
(4) Hosted energy conservation activities, such as “Mother’s Classroom,” “Knowledge of Energy Consumption,” “ Basic Maintenance of In-house Electric Appliances,” etc.
(5) Installed a toll-free telephone 0800-031212-2 to help customers understand energy conservation related matters and used mass media to promote energy conservation.
(6) Strengthened visits to large customers and advised them to improve their electric equipment that had a power factor lower than 80%.
In addition, Taipower also promoted energy conservation within the company. An “Energy Conservation Promotion Team” was established in 1990 to be in charge of inspection for internal and external promotion tasks. With the soaring fuel prices, electricity has become very precious. It is extremely important for Taipower to set an example for energy conservation. Taipower set up an “Energy Conservation Promotion Day” campaign in August 2005 and requested each unit to engage in this effort. The internal energy consumption was reduced by 118 GWh in 2007. |
