Honduras
The Technical Cooperation Contract between ENEE and Taipower is entering its 29th year after extension of the contract for another 2 years, which will be valid until February 2008. Under the consent of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taipower dispatched a two-member survey team to Honduras from June 12-18, 2006 to negotiate the implementation of the PATUCA-3 Hydro Power Project.
President Mel Zelaya of the Republic of Honduras visited Taipower on October 12. The friendship between the two countries was further enhanced.
Korea
1. Korea Electric Power Corporation
The 29th Taipower Delegation led by Mr. Ming-Loong Tsai, vice president of Taipower, visited the Korea Electric Power Corp. in October. A KEPCO delegation led by Mr. Moon Ho, senior vice president of KEPCO, visited Taipower in November.
2. The 24th Conference between KEPCO and Taiwan
The 24th Conference between KEPCO and Taiwan was held in Seoul from November 20-25, 2006. A 6-member delegation led by Mr.Yuan-Hsuan Lee, vice president of KEPCO, attended the conference. Five parallel discussion sessions were held: nuclear power, management technology, power line technology, power development & system planning and R&D.
Japan
1. The 6th IERE General Meeting and Eastern Asia Forum
This event was held in the Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei from November 12-16, 2006. It was hosted and co-hosted by IERE and Taipower. Mr. Edward K. M. Chen, chairman of Taipower, delivered a welcome speech and Mr. Fadah Hsieh, vice minister of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), gave a keynote speech in the general meeting. Mr. Cheng-Yi Tu, president of Taipower, delivered a welcome speech and Mr. Huey-Ching Yeh, director general of the Bureau of Energy of the MOEA, gave a keynote speech in the forum. Five topics: thermal efficiency improvement for coal-fired power plants, CO2 reduction strategy, risk management, the impact and effect of varied generation on the power system and new technologies.
2. The 18th CRIEPI/TPC General Meeting
This meeting was held from December 17-21, in Tokyo, Japan. A 4-member Taipower delegation led by Mr. Fei Chang-Ren, general manager of the Taiwan Power Research Institute, attended the meeting. In addition to reviewing the cooperation in the past year, 2 topics were discussed: capture and storage of CO2 and IGCC technologies. Both parties benefited a lot through this exchange program.
3. The 26th Sino-Japanese Modern Engineering and Technology Symposium
This symposium was held in June 2006, Taipei. Taipower hosted the nuclear panel discussion on June 13. Mr. Tadayuki Yokomura, general manager of the Tokyo Electric Power Company, was invited to deliver a speech on“ABWR(K-6/7) System Design and Construction Experience in TEPCO.”There were more than 50 participants, including staff members from Taipower nuclear related departments and power plants, and the Atomic Energy Council of the Executive Yuan.
Mr. Yokomura visited the Lungmen site on June 14 and joined a discussion meeting with Taipower personnel.
4. The 21st Sino-Japanese Seminar on Nuclear Safety
The seminar was held at the Howard International House Taipei from December 4-5, 2006. There were three sessions: Construction, Maintenance & Management of NPP, Radioactive Wastes Management and Radiation Safety & Emergency Preparedness. A 26-member delegation led by Mr. Hiroshi Morimoto, director and executive vice president of the Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., attended the seminar. Among the 24 papers presented, 2 were from Taipower. The Japanese delegates visited the Lungmen site on December 6.
5. Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc.
The 13th high-ranking delegation led by Mr. Seiki Hawaka, director of the Chugoku Electric Power Co., paid a 10-day visit to Taipower starting from April 10, 2006. An exchange of opinions was made on nuclear related issues, such as quality management of nuclear power plant construction. They also participated in the celebration of Taipower's 60th anniversary.
6. Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.
According to the memorandum signed on November 7, 2005, the Chubu Electric Power Co., sent its first 3-member delegation led by Mr. Masahiro Kakumu, managing director of the Chubu Electric Power Co., to pay a 3-day visit to Taipower starting from October 18, 2006. An exchange of opinions was made on the relevant issues regarding liberalization of the power industry. In addition, another 4-member delegation led by Mr. Akira Matsuyama, general manager of the Chubu Electric Power Co., visited Taipower and participated in the celebration of Taipower's 60th anniversary.
7. Okinawa Electric Power Co., Inc.
Under the invitation of Taipower, a 3-member delegation led by Mr. Katsuaki Chinen, director of the Okinawa Electric Power Co., visited Taipower and participated in the celebration of Taipower's 60th anniversary.
South Africa
The 19th Cooperation Conference between Eskom and Taipower was held in Taipei from December 6-12, 2006. A 4-member delegation led by Mr. Brian A. Statham, general manager of Generation Business Enhancement in Generation Division of Eskom, attended the conference. The topics were the planning and operation of thermal power plants and relevant issues.
United States
1. USNRC Commissioner Mr. J. S. Merrifield visited Taiwan in February 2006. Besides meeting with senior officers of the Atomic Energy Council of the Executive Yuan and Taipower, he also visited the Lungmen Site and the Second Nuclear Power Plant to have an understanding of the current status of nuclear development in Taiwan.
2. The 2006 TECRO-AIT Joint Standing Committee Meeting on Civil Nuclear Cooperation was held at the Chatanooga Technical Training Center, Tennessee, U.S.A., from November 7-8. A 13-member delegation from Taiwan led by Mr. Shian-Jang Su, deputy minister of the Atomic Enesgy Council, attended the meeting and presented five special reports in the plenary session. For present and proposed cooperation items, three groups of parallel discussion were held: Reactors Regulation and Regulatory Research, Waste Management and Environment Restoration and Advanced Nuclear Technology. The delegation visited TVA Sequoyah NPP, NRC TTC and ORNL Spallation Neutron Source Facility. |
