Environmental Protection Performance Achievements
To fulfill its social responsibility and accomplish the goal of power construction projects in tune with environmental quality, Taipower has always done its utmost in environmental protection tasks while engaging in power construction projects. In addition to meeting various national regulations for environmental protection, Taipower has made every effort to reduce the impact of power facilities on the environment to the minimum. The concrete measures are:
1. Strengthen the improvement of the pollution control tasks on the existing power plants’ facilities to comply with the more and more rigid environmental protection regulations.
2. Engage in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the planning of new power facilities.
3. Establish a sound environmental monitoring and investigation system.
4. Implement overall landscape planning .
In 2007, the environmental protection performance achievements were:
1. The Hsinta Thermal Power Plant was consecutively awarded in the “ROC Enterprise Environmental Protection Award” in 2005, 2006 and 2007. For encouraging the enterprises that have this outstanding performance, the Environmental Protection Administration presented an Honorary Award to the Hsinta Thermal Power Plant.
2. The Third Nuclear Power Plant was awarded in the 2007 Excellent Performance Award for enterprises waste disposal, renewable resource disposal and reduction resource recycling.
3. The 2006 GHG emission inventory reports presented by 10 units were verified by ISO 14064-1.
4. The construction of an indoor coal dome for the Hsinta Thermal Power Plant was completed. The problem of coal dust dispersion has been improved.
5. Environmental radiological monitoring showed that the public exposure is less than 1.5E-03 mSv per year near the sites of the three nuclear power plants.
6. The Hsinta Thermal Power Plant Units 1&2 Air Pollution Improvement Project was started this year. After completion of this project, SOx and NOx emissions will be reduced, and the air quality of the control region in southern Taiwan will be improved.
7. The achievements of thermal power plants on environmental protection: Particles were reduced from 745Kg/(106KWh) in 1989 to 31Kg/(106KWh) in 2007, SOX from 6,323Kg/(106KWh) to 493Kg/ (106KWh), NOX from 1,503Kg/(106KWh) to 446Kg/(106KWh). |
