To fulfill its social responsibility and accomplish the goal of power construction projects in tune with environmental quality, Taipower has always been done its utmost in environmental protection tasks while engaging in power construction projects. In addition to meeting various national regulations for environmental protection, Taipower has made every effort to reduce the impact of power facilities on the environment to the minimum. The concrete measures are:
1. Strengthen the improvement of the pollution control tasks on the existing power plants' facilities to comply with the more and more rigid environmental protection regulations.
2. Engage in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the planning of new power facilities.
3. Establish a sound environmental monitoring and investigation system.
4. Implement overall landscape planning.
1. Assistance for acquiring ISO 14001 certification for 5 units, OHSAS 18001 for 6 units. Up to the end of 2006, 31 units and 8 units of this company passed ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001, respectively.
2. The Hsinta Thermal Power Plant was awarded in the 15th Enterprises Environmental Protection Award of the Republic of China.
3. Assistance for installing the environmental management accounting system for 19 units. It is planned to expand the system to the whole company by the end of 2007.
4. Three projects for renewing and expanding the Shenao and other power plants passed government review for their Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Impact Difference Analysis.
5. The Ministry of Economic Affairs gave recognitions to four projects after reviewing their environmental assessment conclusion and the realization of commitments.
6. Completed 3 landscape design projects to serve as examples so that other units can follow suit.
7. Continued implementing the environmental monitoring task for 19 power facilities projects and entrusted academic organizations to undertake studies on environmental ecology.
8. The“2006 Beach Clean-up Campaign”was carried out in 16 power plants and construction sites located nearby coastal areas. Taipower personnel joined local residents to complete this effort.
