Distribution Projects

In 2003, secondary substation capacity was increased by 315 MVA through the construction of 9 new secondary substations with 225 MVA power transformers and the expansion of the 4 existing secondary substations with 90 MVA power transformers. Likewise, 7,765 ckt-km of distribution lines were added, including the construction of 740 ckt-km of medium voltage (11.4KV) overhead new lines; 1,261 ckt-km of low voltage (below 600V) overhead new lines; 2,788 ckt-km of medium voltage (11.4/22.8 KV) underground new lines; 2,976 ckt-km of low voltage underground new lines.

In order to increase the reliability of its power system to go along with urban development, Taipower took steps to improve its distribution grid by using the spot network system and underground distribution system for years. By the end of 2003, there were 82,377 ckt-km of underground distribution lines, about 28.4% of the total. Taipower will keep on building underground lines to comply with the policy of "Underground Construction Plan of Electric Lines and Cables in Urban Areas."

To cope with area load growth and to supply customers with high quality electricity, Taipower has formulated another two projects: (1) The Fourth Distribution Project was started in July 1999 and completed in June 2003. In total, Taipower has expanded and improved the distribution equipment (10,494 ckt-km) and replaced and added transforming equipment (18,051 MVA) within four years. (2) The Fifth Distribution Project was started in July 2003 and will be completed in December 2007. In total, Taipower will expand and improve the distribution equipment (10,042 ckt-km) and replace and add the transforming equipment (13,233 MVA).

The Fifth Distribution Projects(Northen Taipei Branch )
In order to increase the reliability of power system to go along with urban development. To cope with Taipei area load growth and to supply customers with high quality electricity,Taipower took steps to improve its distribution grid by using the Distribution Feeder Automation and underground distribution system for years. The formulated projects below:

1.DAS Project:

(1)Scope: 16 Primary Substations, 163 Feeders.

(2)Functions: Feeder supervisory control and data acquisition、Fault detection, isolation and service restoration、Automatic line capacitor bank control、Automatic meter reading、Load management、Transformer load survey、Outage scheduler、Trouble call system、Distribution system analysis、Dispatcher training simulator.

2. "Underground Construction Plan of Electric Lines and Cables in Urban Areas." Project:

Taipower will keep on building underground lines to comply with the policy of "Underground Construction Plan of Electric Lines and Cables in Urban Areas."By the end of 2005,there were 3,733 ckt-km of underground lines, about 49.4% of the total(7,559 ckt-km).

The Fifth Distribution Project was started in July 2003 and will be completed in December 2007. Taipower will expand and improve the distribution equipment and replace and add the transforming equipment. The major construction works include:

1.35.5 ckt-km Medium voltage(11.4KV)overhead lines replace to underground new lines.

2.Construction of 6 new Distribution Substations and add 136 Feeders.

3.Add 163 Distribution Feeder Automation Feeders.
